No Cycle Across Canada but BC Lung Trek 2006

No Cross Canada ride this year, but on September 9th and 10th we will again take part in the 200km BC Lung Trek for Life and Breath. To donate in support of either/both Dave and Maxine, go to our Home Page for current links.

Until September, we will be seen riding around Vancouver Island training for the Trek. For the Trek we have formed a Team and call ourselves “Lung Life”. See below for our Team photos. Anyone wishing to join us is most welcome – just do a “Comment” to this blog with your email address, and we will get in touch. Until then, I am still looking for a comfortable saddle ……!!

Cycle Across Canada to the Whistlestop Pub!

The Whistlestop Pub Plays Golf for Us

Many thanks to Barry and his Whistlestop staff for choosing the Lung Association for this year’s charity Golf Tournament, and thanks to the 72 Golfers who participated! It was a great day followed by a great BBQ at the Pub in the evening!

Tammy and Courtney did all the work – we just posed!

Tammy gets set to swing!

The “Hole in One” prize – did anybody win it?

They all tried – but the car was safe!!

A good swing – but we didn’t find the ball ….!

The really important person!

The BBQ and sponsor list – thanks to all of them!

The raffle is ready – we sold 243 tickets!!

Once again many thanks to Barry and all his staff for this wonderful finalé to our Cross Canada Bicycle Ride

Cycle Across Canada but haven’t finished yet ..!

8,200 kms wasn’t quite enough, so….

Here we are at the end of the annual BC Lung 200km Trek just south of Vancouver

Our friend Rose had a flat tyre – so even Kevlar treads get holes in them!

Luckily, help was at hand!

Jean and Rose happy to finish the Trek with Dave and Maxine.

Here’s our team! We are “Lung Life” :

Brian, Maxine, Dave and Jean and yes, we all made the 200km! (Rose was hiding from the camera!)

Cycle Across Canada – we made it!!!

Home – we made it!!

110 days and 8,200 kms later, we arrive home! Courtenay, BC. Read on for the final two days…..
And keep logging on – we have a lot more stuff going on through to November!! Thanks to all our friends and supporters for all the Blog messages – keep them coming!

….. and our first glass of wine in weeks![/caption]

Our last night on the road in Parksville, the owners of the Skylite Motel, Hugh and Juliann Sinnoff, gave us a lovely big room for free!
What wonderful people. If any of our followers are ever in this area, please support them!

Maxine and the owner’s son, Steve

Maxine’s friend Nat meets us on the road just before we reached Courtenay.

An hour earlier Nat, and we would have bought you lunch with us!

Here we are at Courtenay, where we were met by the local press, The Courtenay Echo, for photo and interview – read all about us! We were also interviewed by phone for the local radio, Magic FM!

Back in Courtenay after 8,200 kms!

A shower, change into some “real” clothes and lunch with Maxine’s brother, Len!

Yes – coffee and wine!

Photo gallery No.8 – Mile Zero No. 2!

Almost home! After leaving the mountains behind us, we stopped off in Alderbrook for lunch at the White Spot, where Colin, the owner, graciously paid for a wonderful lunch. Later that afternoon we arrived at Mike and Marnie’s home in Tswwassen. We stayed overnight with them and their daughter Lauren and son Aidan who had just returned from the PNE full of his day’s excitment. We were fed a great BBQ – just what we needed after another day of more than 100kms cycling! Next morning off to the ferry, and then to Mile Zero in Victoria where we were met by Corri, TV, Press and Radio – plus a busload of foreign tourists all of whom wanted their photo taken with us! Now see the photos…..
