A difficult ride from Montreal trying to find roads we were allowed to cycle along! Followed the Ottawa River to Ottawa and a great reception from Pete and Michele – thanks guys for a wonderful stay – difficult for us to leave you and get on those bikes again! Especially thanks for the Birthday dessert, and wonderful to meet up with Catherine, Seb and Helga – lots of memories from our Dubai days!
Changed Maxine’s gear shifter after it gave weeks of increasing trouble, then more trouble finding roads to cycle on east of Ottawa! Again followed local advice and used old roads following the Ottawa River as far as Castleford where Jamie and Debbie allowed us to use their lawn for a campsite, a swim in their pool – and an evening meal! A hidden wasp nest revealed itself when a squadron of angry wasps attacked Maxine – 3 stings and one for Dave! It was more excitement than Maxine wanted at the end of the day!
Up early and at a lunch spot we met Alison Seely out training for a triathalon. She invited us to her home, where we met her husband Kevin, and three lovely children. A swim in the lake and a shower were really appreciated in this hot, humid weather! They are proving a great source of local knowledge for the best way west from here! Thanks a million for the stay!
The heat of the day has gone, and we are setting out for Pemboke and beyond!
