Knee Test
Great to visit Europe, but four weeks without cycling? Tried to make up time yesterday and guess what? Yep, saddle sore again!
I was worried about my knees after their contact with those stone steps in Budapest - both still quite bruised. I set of yesterday in sunshine to do a fast one hour to check out the knee joints, and although still bruised, I am happy to say no internal aches, so I guess that by 8 May, everything should be OK!
Amazing the difference the wind makes! I averaged 30 kph with the wind on the outward leg, and only half that on the return against the wind. Maybe crossing the prairies the "wrong way" against the wind may not be such a good idea after all!!
No cycling today - it is raining and winds blowing such that even BC Ferries have cancelled some local sailings. I'll wait for the sunshine!

Sore Knees!
Trekking 101 - Lesson 1. Be very careful of stone steps in foreign countries! Just got home from a 3 week trip that included an unplanned trip!
I went to UK and Hungary to visit family and friends - great to catch up with everyone and point them in the direction of this website. In Budapest I was hurrying across a road up near the Castle (hurrying because it was cold!) and went to go down a flight of old stone steps. The top of the first tread was raised above the sidewalk level and I didn't notice! Yep - I took an unexpected trip head first down the stairs! Now I am nursing a couple of bruised knees and as soon as I get over the jet-lag, a training ride will hopefully not reveal any problems. Last thing we need now are injuries!!

Party??
I am not sure this will come about but a couple of my friends/curling buddies and I went to dinner and they suggested that I have a send off party.
Sounds like a great idea. Any ideas for format out there?
They are so sweet offering to organise it and use thier homes.
The idea is great so I think I will come up with something that they can help me to make without them doing all the work.
My son flipped the idea by me to have an auction to fund raise at the party. Hmmmmm.....We shall see. Stay tuned and tuned up...Maxine

Yeah Ontario
Wayne from Meeford , Ontario called us to offer usa place to stay the night. I didn't even know where it was.
Unfortunately he is too far north for us to take up the offer, but we are touched by the fact that he would take time to call and ask us if we needed a place.
Maybe another trip we will get faurther north. Thanks Wayne.
Dave is off to England to bring back granny who is 84. We will get to enjoy her company for a month and then it will be buckle down, pack and go. She hasn't been to Canada for about 10 years. We will be busy.
Fund raising is going well and although the site doesn't show it until I send the money in I am at about $600.
For those of you who are looking at all our links, There is one that is not up and running yet but will be by the end of next week. It is the Critical Design link.
That's all that's new for now. I am missing Dave and can't wait for him to come home so we can warm up our bikes.
Wishing you all fresh air......Maxine

Things are heating up!!
Time seems to be going by a bit quicker as we get closer to departure date. There is much to do.
Thank goodness my brother and his lady are taking my girls (dogs) for this time. They will no doubt get thoroughly spoilt and then will need retraining when we get home. Better too much love than not enough and I won't need to worry about them while we are gone.
That is only the beginning. There was a leave of absence from work, which has now been approved and many other little household details.
Then last but certainly not least there is the fund raising. Today I decided to step it up a notch and went to see a few people. While having my car tuned up at the Nissan dealership I thought "why not?",
and sure enough they sponsored me. There was no charge for the adjustment on the car either. Life is good.
Boston Pizza, who is also very generous in the valley to causes was quick to give us their support. Thier logo will soon be on the top of the page. Thanks also for the free lunch, Garry. We will use it before one of our training rides.
That's all for today. Tomorrow I will try to contact soom people who have been phoning to give thier support. I will explain that next time.
Think warm thoughts to St Johns for May. Maxine :)
